Secrets

Throughout your adventure, ther are many items you have to collect. Here are some of the more important ones:

Note: If you don't want to spoil some of the secrets you will encounter, you shouldn't read this.

Free Characters

Free Diddy

Diddy is located in Jungle Japes. You must hit the correct three target switches for Diddy's cage to open. You will need the Coconut Cannon to do so. The first target is the switch ontop of the doorway near the BIG "X". Next is the one ontop of the doorway near the two beavers on the right of the world. They are both near BOTH Bananaport #3's. The third is the doorway in the middle. It is the one that is right infront of the water. You have to go to the ledge that Funky's Shop is on and look down with UP C.

Free Lanky

Lanky is located in the Angy Aztec area. First you have to free the Llama from the cage by completing Donkey Kong's Barrel Blast. Go to the temple with the Llamas face on it, where you will see the Llama again and play DK's drums on DK's instrument pad in one of the openings in the wall. The llama will turn into lava into water, then swim through the channel to reach Lanky. Shoot the switch then Lanky is free!

Free Tiny

Tiny is located in the Angy Aztec area. Go into the temple in the first area with Diddy. Simian Slam the Diddy switch on the ground on the right side of the temple. Jump from one tongue platform to the next, then shoot the target switch that is across the room. Then run over to the bridge and play Diddy's guitar to melt the ice pond. Swim to Tiny's cage and use the Chimpy Charge to spell out "KONG".

Free Chunky

Go to Funky's Factory and look for a giant pipe going out of the wall and right back into the floor. Use Lanky's OrangStand to climb ontop of it and Simian Slam the button with Lanky to make the cage appear.

Open Special Modes/Items

Open Multiplayer

To open Multiplayer you must free Diddy.

Jetpak

Collect 15 Banana Medals and go see Cranky. Then get at least 5000 points in the game to get the Rareware coin. To KEEP IT and play unlimited times, collect 6 Banana Faries.

NOTE: If your not getting the Rareware coin and you get 5000 points. That is because you got your 5000th point in the next level. Stay in the first level of the game until you get the 5000 points, THEN you can go to the next level.

1981 DK Classics

Use Gorrila Grab in Frantic Factory to turn on the game. You must complete the 4 levels without dieing. Then you must complete the game - AGAIN to get the Nintendo coin. To KEEP IT and play unlimited times, collect 6 Banana Faries.

The Fairies

The fairies in DK64 are the main key used to for unlocking secrets. They are usually hidden very well, and you need to take a picture of them with your camera. Before you can take pictures, you must first find the camera, which is in the fairy-shaped stone building located in the main hub. Simply use Tiny and shrink yourself to get into the building. Now you're ready to go fairy hunting. Once captured on film, they will unlock secrets in the "Mystery Menu". Some things only require a few fairies, while others will require you to search out every single one in the game.

Banana Fairy Camera

Get Tiny's Mini-Monkey and go inside the Head Statue (Fairy Island). Get the camera from the Fairy and start taking pictures of Banana Faries!

DK Theater
2 Fairies
Once you locate and photograph two fairies, you can access the DK Theater. As the name implies, it allows you to view any of the cut-scenes in the game (including the opening rap) over and over until you get sick of them.

DK Bonus Stages
6 Fairies
Once you locate both Rambi the rhino, and Enguarde the swordfish, you can access bonus levels starring them with six fairy pictures.

The Original Donkey Kong in Mystery Menu
6 Fairies and the Nintendo Coin
To get the Nintendo coin that is required for unlimited play, you must first beat the original Donkey Kong game. It is located in the Frantic Factory area, and you will need to use a Gorilla-Grab to operate the lever. Once you beat all four stages, play once more and finish it again to win the coin. When you shoot six fairy photos, you will then be able to play the original Donkey Kong game from 1981 at any time via the Mystery Menu.

Jetpac in Mystery Menu
6 Fairies and the Rareware Coin
To access the 1983 Rare game Jetpac in the Mystery Menu, you need six fairies and the Rareware coin.

You get the Rare coin in a similar way in which you got the Nintendo coin. Collect at least fifteen Banana Medals, then go see Cranky. He will let you play the game, and if you score 5,000 points the Rareware coin will fall from the sky. Collect the coin to unlock the game in the Mystery Menu.

Boss Battle
10 Fairies
Collect ten fairy pictures to unlock a mode where you can fight any boss that you have already defeated in the game

Krusha in Multi-Player
15 Fairies
The big bad gator from previous DK games makes a cameo appearance in the multi-player modes if you hunt down fifteen fairies.

Cheat Mode
20 Fairies
If you work hard and manage to collect every fairy hiding in this gargantuan game you will be able to unlock the cheat mode. This allows you to have an infinite supply off all the items that you collect in the game. That means, you will never have to worry about running out of ammo again!

The Blueprints

The blueprints aren't as crucial to collect as the fairies, but if you collect 40 and return them to Snide, you will gain access to eight bonus levels.

Batty Barrel Bash
Although it has an unusual name, this is an easy game. It’s a slot machine. Use A to spin the wheels, and then press A each time you wish to stop one.

Beaver Bother
In this game, you must heard all the beavers into the hole in the center of the barrel.

Big Bug Bash
This is a simple bonus level where you just have to swat the fly in the barrel.

Krazy Kong Klamor
In this shooting gallery, aim and shoot at the large banana. Be sure to not hit the Kongs!

Kremling Kosh
Kremling Kosh is basically Whack-a-Mole, but instead of moles you are whacking Kremlings. The same rules apply, just shoot a melon when the Kremling pops up.

Peril Path Panic
This is another shooting gallery where you must shoot melons into the mouths of the crocs so that they will not eat the fairies.

Searchlight Seek
Use your searchlight to spot a Klaptrap, then shoot it with a melon.

Teetering Turtle Trouble
This is yet another shooting gallery. This time, you must shoot the snakes so that they will not drop the turtles.
